YARD WASTE PICKUP

RESUMES APRIL 6, 2011

This department consists of three crews for a total of nine (9) employees who picks up trash from the over 3,000 homes and business in our village.

No items can be placed on street for collection earlier than

7PM the evening before collection date.

One of the most costly items we pay for in our village property taxes is the collection and disposal of household garbage, newspapers, yard waste and recyclables  Well, the 2009 numbers are in and the volume of household trash collected by our three sanitation crews was 10,976,000 pounds.  The yard waste collected was 1,916,000 pounds, 702,200 pounds of newspapers, and finally, the co-mingled recyclables collected weighed 642,140. 

One of the most publicized issues for Long Islanders is the high cost of taxes, but here is a cost that you can directly control.  The cost to dispose a ton of recyclables is approx. $10.  The cost to dispose a ton of household garbage is approx $69.75.  So when you place glass, plastics and metals in the regular garbage, we're all paying more.  So help the environment and help your pocketbooks and separate your trash.  If you need to replace your Green Recycling Pail or if you require more information, please visit the village web site at www.vnhp.org or call the Department of Public Works at 354-0064.
