Village officials continue to meet and work with FAA representatives especially in regard to noise emanating from helicopter traffic over the Village.
We are pleased to report that the Port Authority of NY and NJ recently signed an agreement with an Environmental Science and Planning Firm to conduct a noise study at JFK and LGA Airports. This study will show areas around the airport impacted by noise above the 55 decibel average. Also, portable noise monitors will be placed in certain communities considered by the FAA to have significant noise impact.
Kurt Langjahr is the Village representative on the Town-Village Aircraft Safety & Noise Abatement Committee (TVASNAC). While he and the other committee members are doing amazing work, they need your help and your support. Here are a few ways you can get involved:
TVASNAC meets regularly throughout Long Island and the public is always welcome. You can check the TVASNAC website for dates, times, and locations of upcoming meetings.
Register your complaints by calling the Port Authority at 1 800 225-1071 or go to their website at www.panynj.gov. If you live in the Town of North Hempstead, you can call 311 to register your complaints.
Contact your federal, state, and local elected officials and let them know that you need their help in resolving this quality of life and safety issue.
We will continue to provide our residents with updates as developments occur. And, we hope you consider our suggestions and get involved in this very important issue
